Congratulations to our Jack Petchey Award Winners

On Monday 7th October, Mrs Goodchild and Miss Drummond had the pleasure of attending the Jack Petchey Award Ceremony, where 8 of our students were recognised for their terrific achievements and awarded with their Jack Petchey Awards. Mrs Dawson was also presented with a leader award that her students nominated her for. It was a great night spent celebrating their successes and showcasing their wonderful achievements. I would like to say a huge well done to all of our winners and thank you to all of their families for coming along and supporting them on the night.

Here are the list of winners and the reasons why they achieved a Jack Pechey award.

Congratulations to all our winners! Below is the list of students who attended and the reasons why they won their award.

Monty Roe 9L:

He is very enthusiastic in lessons, always wanting to participate in all class activities and volunteer answers. He works hard and his attitude to learning is very positive. He enjoys being part of the wider school community such as helping at Open Evening.

Monty is always willing to help others and has acted as a 'peace maker' when peers have had disagreements. He is incredibly cheerful, always has a smile on his face and a cheerful word to say. He is resilient and never ever complains.

Holly-Nicole Mason 11C:

Holly has worked very hard to overcome her disabilities and operations. She never complains, even when in pain or discomfort. She is very positive and always cheerful. Holly has proved to be a good friend to others, always willing to support and help anyone who is upset. She is a popular member of her classes and has tried so hard to overcome her natural shyness and participate fully in classes. Holly always tries her best and works hard, she is willing to have a go at any task.

Holly Macrow 10R:

Holly organised — pretty much single-handedly — 9R’s cake sale at this evening’s concert. She spoke to the music department, got permission, arranged the volunteers, even baked a load of the cakes. She is an absolute star. Oh, and we [9R] raised over £100 for the house charity.

Sophie McCall 9S:

For two years running, Sophie has collected and donated lots of items for the local food bank. Last year she donated 248 items. Sophie worked hard to collect the items for two months before she donated them to the charity. She also consistently works hard in her lessons, often completing extra work outside of school in order to increase her knowledge in her lessons. She is a great member of her form group and is always willing to help others.

Luke Kendall 10M:

Luke has been working exceptionally hard in school and has been told that he is expected to get fabulous GCSEs in French and Computer Science. He is also trying to learn Dutch, Swedish, Spanish and Korean in his own time. He attends a French/ German and Italian club. What I think is so fantastic about Luke is that he is setting up a LGBTQ+ section in the library to ensure CVHS continues to be an inclusive community for all. He saw a gap and decided to fill it independently - that takes real dedication. He is a wonderful young man.

Madison Barker 10M:

Myself and Kirsten would love to put Madison Barker (9M) forward for the Jack Petchey Award. Overall, she is an absolutely wonderful addition to the school. She is 9M's Service Captain and worked hard organising the shoe boxes and is now currently creating a Kindness Calendar that we hope to put around different form groups. On top of this, she works exceptionally hard in all of her subjects and nearly always has the most merits in form, since Year 7.

Will Steadman 9L:

Will has had an amazing cross country season. Some of his achievements are:

Mid Essex Year 8 Champion

3rd in Year 8 & 9 District Championships

Represented Essex at English Schools Championship (running against Year 9’s)

1st in Essex Championships

1st in District round of National Cross Country Cup

1st in Regional round of National Cross Country Cup

Part of school team that reached Regional Finals for the first time ever.

1st Under 13 boys Cross Country title

Part of winning Chelmsford team in Essex Championships

Selected to run in the  ‘mini marathon’

As well as training for this, he also represents the school at Football and Athletics.

Toby Davison 10E:

Toby is always such a positive member of the class. He always goes out of his way to help others and puts 100% effort into all of his work. He is determined to do well in school and doesn't let anything get in the way of that. Toby is also described as a great friend who is always very supportive.

Kirsty Dawson: Leader award

Kirsty was nominated by students as being easy to talk to and always happy to make time to help her students, be it with any friendship/social issues or helping them understand the work.
