Duke of Edinburgh
2009 Students awarded the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh
Students working towards Bronze award
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a programme of personal and social development for young people aged between 14 and 25 years. It has three progressive levels (Bronze, Silver and Gold). To gain an Award young people choose and undertake activities in four sections – Service, Skills, Physical Recreation and expeditions.
The Award is a challenging programme of activities which will help young people to learn new skills, help others and experience adventure and it gives a great sense of achievement. What’s more, many organisations such as employers and universities take a good view of the Award and what it says about the person who has achieved it.

'CONGRATULATIONS'
In July 2009, 24 participants were awarded their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh. We would like to congratulate the group for this great achievement; they showed immense dedication and commitment and we wish them well working towards their Silver Award.
*********************************
The 2009- 2010 participants consist of 24 year 10 students. To date, we have completed three expeditions, two of which took place at Danbury Outdoors Centre, Essex and the final in Rendlesham Forest, Suffolk. The practice and the training weekends prepared and encouraged us for the adventurous journey as part of a team. We were taught how to cook on a trangia, put up a tent, read and orientate map and navigate around the countryside.
Team work is a big part of Duke of Edinburgh, which we fully appreciate and put into action in the final expedition. Although we were doing the expeditions as part of the award, we have gained more from the adventure than we anticipated; new friendships, fun times, new skills and a sense of increased confidence.
We are now finishing off our service, skill and physical recreation and look forward to updating you when we find out if we have passed!
