THE DUKE OF EDINBURGH’S AWARD.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a programme of personal and social development for young people aged between 14 and 25 years. It has three progressive levels (Bronze, Silver and Gold). To gain an Award young people choose and undertake activities in four sections – Service, Skills, Physical Recreation and expeditions.

The Award is a challenging programme of activities which will help young people to learn new skills, help others and experience adventure and it gives a great sense of achievement. What’s more, many organisations such as employers and universities take a good view of the Award and what it says about the person who has achieved it.

At present there are 28 students working towards the Bronze Award. The activities they are taking part in range immensely from helping out in elderly care homes to bell ringing, from helping out at Beavers to learning to ice skate.

They have spent 2 days and 1 night at Danbury Outdoors Centre preparing for their Qualifying Venture. The aim of the expedition section is to encourage a spirit of adventure and discovery by preparing for and carrying out an adventurous journey as part of a Team.  Please click on the attached PDF document to view the diary entry written by one of the students following the training weekend in March.

Next practise weekend scheduled for June 2008.
