Sixth form students who worked with Theatre active
Cyber bullying & Internet Safety programme

'Look Who's Talking'
Exciting work for Chelmer Valley sixth form drama students! A group of fortunate drama students had the opportunity to work with a professional theatre company and develop a theatre piece addressing the key issues surrounding Cyber bullying and Internet safety.
Theatre active, an Essex based professional theatre company, worked alongside Chelmer Valley students for two days to devise an innovative new piece of theatre on this sensitive topic. After canvassing their ideas during workshop sessions Theatre active produced a stimulating piece of work and presented this to our Year 8 and 9 students.
Jan Marchant, Assistant Head Teacher, said “This was an excellent project to be involved in and it was fascinating to see a piece of theatre that takes our student’s ideas and reflects them back to them. This gave them an opportunity to take some time out to reflect and really explore this issue”.
An information evening was set up for parents and sixth form to continue the dialogue which proved very successful. This gave parents a chance to engage with the same process as their children during an interactive piece. One parent said “I found it enlightening and innovative in terms of the way the message was delivered and it has certainly generated some conversation in our house”.
This project was funded by the school’s Engineering specialism and we now understand that this is being shown in other schools in Essex. Chelmer Valley was very proud to be involved in the creation of such an exciting and worthwhile piece of theatre.
