Livingstone

When did he live?

1813-1873

What did he do to become famous?

He explored much of southern and central Africa with only a few servants for support and assistance and succeeded where many of his better equipped, more aggressive competitors failed. Livingstone always preferred negotiation to conflict, which turned out to be the key to penetrating the lost kingdoms of inner Africa. He risked death and disease to bring Christianity into parts of Africa which did not appear on any of the maps of his day. During a mission along the Nile, he vanished, only to be found again, close to death in an isolated African village, by a newspaper reported called Henry Stanley, who uttered the famous phrase:

“Doctor Livingstone, I presume?”

What is our charity?

Livingstone house - The Green Striped tie!

Livingstone house have adopted Barnardos Children’s charity this year. Throughout the year we will host fund raising events and donate the money directly to the charity.

A local Barnardos representative is attending a house assembly to promote the work that they do locally which will raise the profile and awareness of their work.

We have already had a non-uniform day and a Valentines cake sale to help raise funds whilst having fun.

Mrs L Abbott, Head of Livingstone House
