Clubs
Art club for KS3 runs Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday lunchtimes where students can complete homework and classwork as well as exploring personal ideas.
GCSE students can work in the department every lunchtime and by arrangement after school.
Extended work
The sixth form have regular trips to London galleries, including the Tate Modern and Tate Britain, The National Gallery and The Haywood Gallery. There have also been trips to Paris and Barcelona and work from these became part of their coursework. At KS3 students visit the Henry Moore Foundation, the Cambridge Fitzwilliam Museum and the Tate Britain
Artists in residence work with gifted and talented students from all years on 3 separate projects. They have worked with the artist Michael Condron to design and build a mosaic that depicts technology through the ages. Students have designed and made a mural for Humanities that showcases eminent figures in the humanities fields. The most recent is a stained glass art piece in the Modern Foreign languages staircase window that depict communication and technology.
Year 8 and 10 Students have been involved in a series of Art workshops where they worked collaboratively with Broomfield primary school. An artist in residence taught Chelmer Valley students about working with graphics pads and the photo manipulation software, Adobe Photoshop. These students, with the support of the artist taught the student from Broomfield about how to use the pads and how to manipulate their own photos using computer technology.
Year 8 students spent a day exploring China through Art, Music and Drama and finished with a celebration of their achievements with a show in the hall.
There is a celebration of GCSE and A level success at the end of the academic year when parents are invited in to view their child’s work and progress throughout the art course .
