Year 13 Applied Business
The department consists of Mr. J. Cunningham (Head of Department) and Mr. T. Turek, together with Mrs. A. Paliwal who is a Graduate Trainee teacher.
Mr Cunningham has had experience of working in the financial sector and has previously run his own business. Mr. Turek has extensive experience of having worked in the international banking sector in a number of foreign locations and also has experience as an entrepreneur.
The Department offers Applied Business at GCSE and AS/A2 Level. The GCSE is a double award where as at AS/A2 both single and double awards are offered. The philosophy is to embed business theory within the real world of business so students are able to see the relevance of the curriculum. This is to help them to ensure their future employability and financial well being.
The department aims to develop students’ abilities in a number of areas including:
- Business literacy and numeracy.
- The ability to investigate, identify and select relevant information.
- The skills to analyse, evaluate and make justified recommendations.
- Problem solving and team work skills.
- The desire to take calculated risks, work independently and to take the initiative to progress.
