GCSE IN APPLIED BUSINESS (DOUBLE AWARD)
A GCSE in Applied Business is a nationally recognised work-related qualification designed to provide students with a wide choice of routes into further education and / or employment.
You can gain 2 A* to G grades from the course. How is the course structured?
66% of the course is assessed on coursework and is suited to those who enjoy project work. 33% is assessed by a single examination.
Students have some control over their own learning. They can decide how to provide evidence of their learning themselves.
The course is related to the real world and there are:
Visits
Visiting speakers
Individual research
Work related learning including simulations and enterprise activities.
There are three units of work:
Investigating Business: This helps students to learn about different types of businesses, what departments make up the business, what activities they carry out and why they locate in certain places. This is assessed through portfolio work.
People and Business: People are the most valuable resource for any business. This unit helps students to learn about and to understand the roles played by people with different interests in the business. This assessed through portfolio work.
Business Finance: Students learn about the costs and revenues of businesses and how these figures can be included in profit and loss accounts. Students also learn to calculate the point at which a business will break even. This is assessed by external examination.
The examinations board followed is Edexcel.
