GCSE IN APPLIED BUSINESS
A GCSE in Applied Business is a nationally recognised work-related qualification designed to provide students with a wide choice of routes into further education and / or employment.
You can gain A* to G grades from the course.
How is the course structured?
60% of the course is assessed through three coursework activities and is suited to those who enjoy project work. 40% is assessed by a single Financial Records examination.
The course is related to the real world and there are:
Visits
Visiting speakers
Individual research
Work related learning including simulations and enterprise activities.
There are three units of work:
Unit1 – Investigating How Businesses Work
This is an investigation into what business enterprise is all about, including how businesses are organised and how people are involved in them. It looks at ethical and green issues. You will focus on one local and one national business. This unit is assessed through three controlled coursework activities.
Unit 2 – Financial Records
This unit focuses on how businesses record financial transactions, make payments and keep records of how well they are doing. You learn about profit and loss accounts and balance sheets and how they are used by businesses in order to understand their performance. This unit is assessed in a 1 hour external exam taken at the end of year 10.
The examinations board followed is Edexcel.
