KS5
At KS5 we offer both the single and double AS and A2 Applied Business.
The course is for two years for the full Single or Double Award. Two thirds of the course is assessed via portfolio (coursework) and one third via external examinations. It can be delivered as either:
· a Single Award AS GCE (3 units)
· a Double Award AS GCE (6 units)
· a Single Award Advanced GCE (6 units)
· a Double Award Advanced GCE (12 units)
Students may progress through different combinations over a two or possibly a three year period.
This Double Award is equal to two full A Levels. The Single Advanced qualification is equal to one A level. Four C’s or above at GCSE level including Mathematics and English. (A GCSE in Business Studies or Applied Business is not a requirement).
The courses are made up from a variety of units covering different aspects of business. All combinations consist of a balance of two portfolios (coursework) to one examination. Units include Marketing, Finance, People at Work, Customer Service and other aspects of business.
The full Double Award consists of eight portfolio units and four examination units.
The Single Award consists of four portfolio units and two examination units.
Classroom and field research are combined, including visiting and collecting information from local places and organisations. This can and is encouraged to include places of employment where students have part time jobs. Applying business concepts and solving business problems in a work related context adds interest and realism to the topics investigated.
Most students go on to study business related degrees at university including Law, Accountancy, Economics and Business Administration. Some have gone straight into jobs related to finance or banking.
