Dance

Dance is an integral subject within the creative arts and PE curriculum. Students are able to choose GCSE Dance as an option for year 10 and 11. This provides students with the opportunity to focus their energy into practical outcomes for assessment, alongside gaining an appreciation for professional dance works by attending trips to the theatre and observing other performances. GCSE Dance '09 cohort will be assessed 80% practical and 20% written. Students can choose to be assessed in Dance within GCSE PE too.

At KS3 Dance is taught to both boys and girls within their PE acivities.

There is an annual inter-house Dance competition which allows the students to choreograph movement from a given theme. This competition enhances team-spirit and promotes organisation skills.

Dance work is celebrated by staging an annual Dance Production in the spring term. This performance opportunity incorporates the winners from inter-house competition, pieces that have been assessed for Free-style medals, choreography from P.E lessons and extra-curricular activities. In addition, choreography from the recent introduction of KS5 BTEC Performing Arts will also feature in future Dance productions.

At CVHS we offer BTEC award (1 yr) and certificate (2yrs) in Performing Arts which encompasses Dance and choreographic techniques. The Dance work from this course is shown in a separate showcase in the autumn term.

GCSE Dancers are working with professional dance artists to devise their performance piece for their exam. Dance Digital has provided workshops during curriculum and extra curricular activity time to deliver the Set Study for the GCSE Dance exam. KS3 and GCSE Dance Students have been invited to perform at Notley High school and Sandon School Dance shows in Spring 2010. Through collaboration with external agencies and other schools, we can enrich our knowledge, skills and enjoyment of Dance as an art form.

GCSE Dance grade predictor can now be accessed on the 'shared area' of the school network in the GCSE Dance folder. This resource will assist students in their understanding of how their grades for each unit can impact the final result.

NEW...KS4 now includes a BTEC Performing Arts award as an option block for students to choose from in September 2010.
