Dance
Extra curricular Dance club runs Thursdays after school till 4.30. All students are welcome to attend. These sessions focus on creating Dance in preparation for the Annual showcase and celebration assemblies throughout the year.
In KS3 Dance is on a rotation with core PE and all students will take part in a six week block.
GCSE Dance is option choice for Year10 and 11. Students work towards the AQA exam board specification, 80% practical assessment and 20% written exam at the end of Year 11.
Yr10 and 11 students can undertake their Dance leaders Level 1 certificate during their Dance lessons in Core PE. This award provides an opportunity for students to develop the confidence to lead their peers and extend their creativity.
The Set Dance module is undertaken in the spring term of Year 10, which amounts to 20% of the final grade; these results are published in August. Students can re-sit this module in Year 11 and the highest grade will be accredited in their overall grade.
GCSE Dance club is Wednesday after school till 5pm where students prepare their examination choreography and rehearse performance pieces. ALL GCSE students must attend these sessions.
During the GCSE course, students have the opportunity to work with external Dance artists to further their understanding of a variety of Dance styles and we aim to provide trips to watch professional Dance performances.
At KS5, we offer BTEC Performing Arts (Musical Theatre) which allows students to explore Dance, Drama and Music as a combined subject during their sixth form studies.
There is an Annual Celebration of Dance showcase in the spring term which provides performance opportunities for KS3 PE, extra curricular creative work and GCSE Dance and BTEC Performing Arts choreography.
From Jan 2012 Monday evening DC49 Cheer sessions will be offered free of charge for Years 10 to 13.
