Dance

Dance has grown at CVHS over the last three years with the provision of after school activities, external awards and an annual showcase.

Extra-curricular club, for all year groups is held once a week. This is delivered as a workshop promoting improvised movement and choreographic ideas. The participants of the extra-curricular Dance club are offered the opportunity once per year to be assessed by an external examiner towards UK Alliance free-style dance medals. This usually takes place during the autumn term.

  • UK Alliance dance medals being prepared at Dance club (wed after school) to be assessed July 16th 2008 after school.

Dance is taught within the P.E curriculum for both boys and girls at KS3 and offered as a ‘specialism’ for assessment within GCSE P.E.

There is an annual inter-house Dance competition which allows the students to choreograph movement from a given theme. This competition enhances team-spirit and promotes organisation skills.

Dance work is celebrated by staging an annual Dance Production in the spring term. This performance opportunity incorporates the winners from inter-house competition, pieces that have been assessed for Free-style medals, choreography from P.E lessons and extra-curricular activities. In addition, choreography from the recent introduction of KS5 BTEC Performing Arts will also feature in future Dance productions.

At CVHS we offer BTEC award (1 yr) and certificate (2yrs) in Performing Arts which encompasses Dance and choreographic techniques. The Dance work from this course is shown in a separate showcase in the autumn term.

Exciting new GCSE dance starting in September.
