CLUBS:
There is a KS3 Drama Club running on Tuesday lunchtimes where students have the opportunity to work with a variety of peers and take part in activities such as improvisation, drama games, directing and performance.
GCSE Drama, AS & A2 Theatre Studies and BTEC Performing Arts students can work in the department at lunchtimes and by arrangement after school.
Wednesday after school is ‘Coursework Clinic’ where GCSE students can come along and do their coursework and get help.
EXTENDED WORK:
The Year 11 GCSE students have the opportunity to visit London’s West End to see the professional version of ‘Blood Brothers’. They also act as an audience for AS & A2 performances, helping to develop their thinking and extend the ‘theatre’ they have experienced.
AS & A2 Theatre Studies & BTEC Performing Arts students have regular trips to see a variety of productions to enhance and back up the work they do during lessons and also in preparation for practical and written exams.
Each year, Theatre Active spend the day with year 8 working on a topical issue, using performance and Forum Theatre to explore their thoughts and views. This year it was called ‘Up on the High’ and focused on peer pressure and good decision making.
Theatre Active have also worked on a project about Cyber bullying and Internet Safety, responding to a perceived need in the school. It was devised in collaboration with the 6th form Theatre students and performed to Year 9. Parents were invited to an evening event of performance and information sharing. This was highly valued by parents and students alike.
There are many performance opportunities available for 6th form students. Throughout the two year Theatre Studies course it is essential to perform in front of an audience as well as an external examiner. The performances include scripted and devised pieces.
