Gifted and Talented
Year 9 students scripted and performed modern versions of the key scenes from Much Ado About Nothing, the Shakespeare text for the SATs. These were filmed and used for revision purposes.
‘Rewriting the scenes and acting them out really helped us to get to grips with what is going on. Then we were better at understanding Shakespeare’s original language. You suddenly realise that behind the difficult language is a great story.’
Connor Hurkades.
A writing challenge in collaboration with the Girls’ County High School engaged three of our most able writers in Year 7, recognising their passion for writing and offering opportunities to develop this interest.
Similarly, students worked with girls from the County High School to produce a film for the BBC competition Sixty Second Shakespeare. This involved them analysing a scene and making editing decisions that relied on their ability to think critically and to justify their decision making. Students also worked with video cameras and an editing package.
This year students will enter a mock trial competition. This will develop their writing abilities and their speaking and listening capabilities. There is also the opportunity for a promising Art student to attend as a court artist.
