Gifted and Talented

On Wednesday, 9th December 2009, Gifted and Talented Mathematics students from years 8 and 9 spent a twilight session working together to solve problems of logistics, trying to find the most efficient way to move things around subject to certain constraints. A great deal of discussion, head-scratching and laughter ensued, alongside some deep thinking, whilst experimenting practically with their ‘solutions’. Having established their best system they were then challenged to find a way to generalise and write down their methods so they could be replicated by others. A lot of problem solving skills were practised and a good time was had by all.
