KS3
Year 7 Maths
Mr Numbervator
In Year 7, students follow a course which reflects the National Framework for Teaching Mathematics at KS3. This includes work on Number, Algebra, Shape and Space and Handling Data. They use the Key Maths textbooks, which are differentiated by ability. They also do oral and mental work, investigations and problem-solving and are expected to complete homework to practise and extend what they have learned.
In addition, students use the ‘Successmaker’ integrated learning system regularly to help them to maximise their potential. Once our new computer room is ready, we will be able to integrate ICT more fully into our teaching of mathematics at all levels.
Students are tested at regular intervals on the work they have covered against National Curriculum levels.
From the beginning of Year 7, students are taught in sets for mathematics according to their ability and previous achievements. Setting is kept under review throughout the year and changes made where necessary. At the end of each year all students are placed in new sets for the following year based on their examination results and their progress throughout the year.
