The Modern Foreign Languages team aim to provide a broad range of exciting opportunities for students to use and develop their language skills both in this country and abroad.
Year 7
• Our annual Year 7 day trip to Le Touquet generates lots of enthusiasm from students and staff alike.
• Students travel by coach to Le Touquet where they carry out tasks under supervision enabling them to use in real situations the French they have learnt in the classroom.
Year 9
• Students participate in the “You’ve got talent” event after school, enjoying using their knowledge and skills with a foreign language through the media of dance and drama.
Year 10
• Students have the opportunity to visit a Christmas Market in Germany to practise the language they have learnt.
• Later in the year there are trips to the capital cities, Paris and Berlin where students enjoy a range of experiences, educational, cultural and recreational, including visits to the most important landmarks.
• In Berlin students are able to link up with counterparts in a German school, the Gymnasium Steglitz.
Year 11
• Students have revision sessions provided for them to maximize their performance in public examinations.
• This year students participated in a German Enrichment Day meeting with students from the Gymnasium Steglitz for a range of activities designed to develop their language skills.
Year 12
• Visits are arranged to student conferences in London as part of the AS level courses in French and German.
• Students benefit from tuition by a Foreign Languages Assistant who gives vital help in preparation for the oral examination and who brings to the students another link with the foreign language and culture being studied.
• Some Year 12 students participate in lower school lessons as assistant teachers, helping to support and extend younger students use of the target language.
All students are encouraged to make use of recommended websites and interactive exercises which are accessible from home via the school website ‘Learning Resources’ interface.
