PHYSICAL EDUCATION - A LEVEL
The PE department offer A level Sport and Physical Education at KS5 and pride ourselves on the quality of teaching, as well as developing students ability to learn independently. We follow the AQA examination syllabus, which can be accessed via the link below.
Many of our students go on to study courses such as Exercise and Sports Sciences, Physiotherapy or indeed teaching qualifications at university, although the subject can be used in conjunction with many other Further Education courses.
The A level course is structured in the following way:
Year 1 - AS Level
This covers 3 modules:
Module 1 Physiological and Physiological Factors which Improve Performance
Module 2 Socio-cultural and Historical Effects on Participation in Physical Activity and their Influence on Performance
Module 3 Coursework
Analysis and Evaluation of the Factors which Improve Performance (practical demonstration or project investigation)
Year 2 - AS Level
Module 4 Physiological, Biomechanical and Physiological Factors which Optimise Performance
Module 5 A. Factors Affecting the Nature and Development of Elite Performance B. Synoptic Assessment
Module 6 Analysis and Critical Evaluation of Factors which Optimise Performance (practical demonstration of project investigation) and Synoptic Assignment
NB
You May opt for practical assessment at AS and A2 or you may opt for project assessment at AS and A2 or you may opt for practical assessment in one year and project in the other.
In order to be accepted on the course pupils must have achieved a C grade or above at GCSE Physical Education.
