KS3 lesson
At Key Stage 3 we offer our students the opportunity to experience working in a range of different areas. Projects are designed to ensure that students meet the National Curriculum, Programmes of Study and during each project students are assessed in a number of areas in the design and make process.
Our projects for 2010/2011 are as follows;
Year 7
Moisture Tester (Electronics)
Funny Face Cushions (Textiles)
Systems and Control (including CAD)
Thermometer (Graphics and Smart Materials)
Year 8
Money Box with with electronic security (Resistant Materials)
Bottle Coat (Textiles)
Healthy Eating (Food)
Year 9
Clock (Resistant Materials)
IPOD Pouch with electonics (Textiles)
Selling Point (Graphics)
During this Key Stage we also provide a large number of opportunities for increasing skills in CAD/CAM. Students are encouraged to use 2 D Design and Prodesktop for modelling and communication of design ideas. In electronics they will be working with Circuit Wizard to build and test circuits in Electronics. The more traditional form of electronics is experience in Year 7 in the moisture tester project, but we progress to projects in year 8 to program PICs to control the circuit. Emphasis is placed throughout the key stage on acquiring a range of basic practical skills and knowledge. Students are encouraged to take home their project, for which a nominal charge is made.
