Year 8 Maths Activity Day
Year 8 students participated in an Alien Invasion Maths Activity day on Monday 26th March.
They were threatened by Darth Vader, who informed them that he had kidnapped a teacher from the school who he suspected of being the rebel alliance leader. He informed the students that they would be killed by alien invaders if the teacher did not give up information on the death star plans.
The students had four tasks to complete to prevent being eaten by the aliens. These tasks were to identify the alien landing sites, design and build an escape vehicle from LEGO, use codes to communicate with the captured teacher and identify the best escape route and the distances involved in the escape plan.
After completion of these tasks the aliens decided the students would not taste nice, therefore they set one final challenge; if the students could use clues to identify what the aliens had built on Earth and some information about their species then they would leave without eating anyone.
During the day each tutor group collected points for their skills as well as team working abilities, the winning tutor group was 8R.
The teacher was returned safe and well to the school!
