Opening of the Eastman Building

On Friday 11th May 2012 Mr Bill Eastman officially opened the Eastman Building for Performing Arts.

Governors decided to name this new facility the Eastman Building in honour of Kim Eastman who sadly died in 2011 having worked at Chelmer Valley High School for nearly 20 years.  Kim was an inspiration to us all and we hope this new building will inspire others, particularly our students, to be the best they can be.  This impressive facility, consisting of dance & drama studios, music classrooms and practice rooms is a wonderful addition to the school.

Bill Eastman, Kim’s husband, was accompanied by his family and friends.  Other  guests included staff and governors of the school, Sir Alan Haselhurst, MP, representatives from Essex County Council and Mr Reg Richardson, a former Headteacher of the school.   The ceremony started with speeches and the cutting of a cake, followed by the unveiling of a special plaque.  Guests then enjoyed the choir singing “Seasons of Love” from the musical Rent and a tour of the new building, followed by champagne and cake.
