Second Specialism: Leadership
In April 2009, we were delighted to be awarded our second specialism as a High Performing Specialist School (HPSS), focusing on excellence in leadership.
We are currently one of approximately 50 schools nationally to be designated a Leadership Partner School, working closely with the National College of School Leadership (NCSL) and the Youth Sport Trust (YST). As a specialist school for Leadership, Chelmer Valley High School will:
- be at the forefront of developments to deliver a new generation of world-class leaders;
- reduce the gap in educational achievement through the creation of partnerships between HPSS schools, other specialist schools and primary networks. These partnerships will focus on raising pupil achievement via effective
leadership developmentand succession planning strategies;
- as well as developing leaders in the school workforce and local community this programme will also develop leadership capabilities and competences with pupils.
What’s been going on:
The River Chelmer Partnership Schools have been able to hold a two day conference at the Wentworth Hotel in Aldeburgh.
This conference allowed the schools Headteachers to meet and discuss leadership within their schools (which included the leadership potential of staff, pupils and governors). Succession planning was also discussed to support leaders within the schools. It also allowed them to schedule 12 months of Leadership meetings.
A Deputies core group was also established (who met for the first time on the 2nd October and they discussed leadership roles and responsibility, pupil tracking and monitoring progress and explored the new SEF).
