Year 7 Isolation work

To support your child's learning we will be using a blended approach between the National Oak Academy, alongside our own internally built resources. The National Oak Academy classroom has been created by teachers specifically to support pupils’ learning at home. Oak is a free website available at and it is backed by the Department for Education.

You can access Oak’s online classroom on any device, you don’t need to log in or remember a password. Your child can access lessons across a range of subjects, which provide four to five hours of learning every day.

Each lesson is delivered by a trained teacher, over a pre-recorded video, and it’s very clear at the start of each session anything you might need (such as pens, paper etc). The lessons are designed to need minimal supervision.

Depending on the date that your child's isolation begins depends on the work that they need to complete - please see below.

If your child is isolating while awaiting a PCR test result then they will catch up in the usual manner when they are back at school, however, they are welcome to use the resources below to support their learning.

During their isolation, students should contact their teachers with any questions they might have, this can be done through RMUnify and their school email account. If they type in the surname of their teacher the system will find the correct email address.

Students should also regularly check SMHW, and complete any work set as it will complement the work the students are doing at home. Any submission should be done virtually either through SMHW (if enabled) or via email.

Students will be exploring the history of Greek theatre, along with different Greek stories and myths. Students need to work their way through each activity and send their completed work to their teacher via email.

w/c 03/01/2022

Task 1: Watch the following documentary about the history of Greek Theatre

Task 2: Research the following Greek Gods - Zeus - Poseidon - Hades - Hera - Dionysis.

Using the above activities create an information booklet/poster about the history of Greek Theatre and different Gods that were worshipped by the Greeks.

w/c 10/01/2022

Task 1: Pandora’s Box Watch the following video of Pandora’s Box (a Greek myth)

Task 2: Out of Pandora’s box came disease, misery and death. Draw a picture for each of these ‘characters’. Consider what they might look like if an actor was performing them on stage.

w/c 17/01/2022

Task 1: Theseus and The Minotaur watch the YouTube link

Task 2: Write a poem about Theseus and The Minotaur For example: What would you do if the 9th year had come And you had to say goodbye to your daughter and son It was finally time to say goodbye And everyone in Athens began to cry Theseus promised to slay the beast So he sailed away to a land called Crete.

Try to include information from the story that makes it easy for the reader to understand what happens in the story line.

Try to write at least 3 stanzas.

Record yourself reciting the poem, considering how you can use your voice to make the poem engaging.

w/c 24/01/2022

Task 1: Theseus and The Minotaur
Design and draw and weapon that could be used to defeat The Minotaur. This can be an ancient Greek weapon or a modern weapon. You need to annotate the weapon for all of its features.

Task 2: Create a magazine advert that promotes and sells your weapon.
You need to make the advert creative and engaging. Imagine it is going to appear in weekly Greek magazine and hundreds of Greek civilians will see the advert and be tempted to buy it.

Use the example below to help you

- Picture of the weapon
- A tagline/slogan
- A heading
- A price
- A brand name (For example – Nike)
- Social media links (#Theseus&theMinotaur)
- Think about the colours of your advert

w/c 31/01/2022

Task 1: Mask design – Watch the following YouTube video that briefly explains why Greek performers wore masks. You do not need to watch the entire video. Design and draw a mask for a Greek character of God that we have explored this half term. Alternatively, if you know any other Greek myths of Gods you can design a mask for them.

Task 2: Once you have designed your mask you must write an analytical paragraph, explaining the choices you have made in relation to your design. Why have you made certain choices.

Task 3: Extension Like last week, create a magazine advert promoting and selling your mask for the public to buy.
